RT98 Mini Mobile Radio 149Mhz Freenet Radio

I just found out about this radio. Looks like it would be a good little UHF mobile radio candidate. I like the streamlined simplicity of it. While not a Part 95 radio in the U.S., I could otherwise see it would be a good little base or mobile GMRS radio for a licensed GMRS operator. I could see it on a family outing or even a larger neighborhood group (they on the license free radios) being the net control to keep everyone in touch. If I ever get my "shack" arranged properly it would be a good, tight little radio to have tucked under a shelf for monitoring GMRS with some friends with the license free HTs (I'm also licensed for GMRS as well as Amatuer) while keeping my other radios clear for ham work. Also handy for using our local UHF repeater though we spend most of our time on the VHF one.

Bought it as 70cm version a couple of weeks ago and it indeed works great. Only thing I didn't like is the not detachable Mic and thus decided to change that. :-) Bought a set of connectors (GX12 Aviation Connector Plug ) and built it in without big difficulties. Also plan to add in the Mic housing a 1750Hz Repeater tone and BT support for headset use in my mobile, as this will be required for leagal reason here very soon.

Отлично работает на дальние прохождения, и втомобильна радейка Оптим778, ее максималка 45вт. Но это уже ближе как трансивер, нежели просто рация... они отличное радио Я просто спрашиваю и интересуюсь, что есть в продаже базовые антенны на 70см, и вроде как по описанию, они уже откалиброваны на определенные частоты.

For my security team, we use the retevis handheld walkie talkie that work great. But I'm looking to install the small mobile radio this in my mobile unit. Retevis states this will work with the radios we have on hand but I was unaware that It was a ham radio. For the operation problem, I consulted the retevis staff, they gave a good answer, and also sent me a video of the operation and installation, which is currently in good use, retevis is doing a good job, I will continue to support.

neat little radio, wish it had a bit more pwr, I check it though , 15w is enough in my area.-thanks

The small mobile radio would fit just about anywhere in a vehicle! I use it a lot in the field.

That is great.mini mobile radio, my younger brother also wants to buy one, then we will test it together, install the antenna and use it, we are all radio amateurs.

I just got mine (UHF). I know it's a very mini mobile radio, but it's tiny. It's about the size of a 1 to 3 coax switch I have. Sitting next to my Yaesu FT-2900, it looks like a small model. Retevis software is available in two versions. V1.01 and V1.02. Retevis told me to use V1.02. I have downloaded V1.01 and set up my channel list. nice one. Newer versions of the software will not work. That said, it's easy to read and write. So far, so good. I set it up as a UHF base because I just need to hit the repeater locally. On my multiband basic antenna, the SWR is around 443 (local repeater) at 1.4:1. Most radios on 2m, 70cm and GMRS, even CB antennas run lower, but it still works. I've also tested it in GMRS frequencies (I'm ham and GMRS licensed). It's in 2.4x SWR, but it's still below 3. I still get very good signal reports talking to someone on the Retevis RT22 there, and when I test it just to see, the non-GMRS licensed folks in our community group use it. I know, not part 95 certified. I'm just testing how well it works at higher SWR. I will have to try it out with my dual band, rollup slim jim to see what SWR is and how well it performs. This is a very nice small portable, packable radio setup. Like I said, I just got it, but so far it's a sweet little radio for very little money. Time will tell how it does. I might need to buy a VHF version for my wife's car, or make a small field pack radio. Of course it would be nice if the microphone was detachable. who knows. Maybe i
